What lies ahead for the UK's energy targets in 2011?

This year has already been named as the year for the electric vehicle, but 2011 will also see a number of green policies and incentives launched or debated which could push the UK towards its energy targets. As an article in the Telegraph points out, the government will be proving that it really is the "greenest government ever" as it begins to push the Green Deal through the parliamentary process.Under the policy, consumers will be encouraged and helped to pay for home improvements such as glazing or insulation that will make their property more energy efficient. In return for a loan, they will pay the funds back through their energy bill. This year, the article states, could also see the government centralising the electricity market to make utility firms build more renewable power systems such as wind turbines.By the end of 2011, climate ministers will return to UN talks in Durban, South Africa, in the hopes of signing a new deal to cut CO2 emissions as the Kyoto Protocol ends in December 2012.Posted by Emily Thomas Sign up for regular email updates to help you save money and energy
