The BBC's electric car challenge has been completed. It took Brian Milligan four days to drive from London to Edinburgh in what he called an "unfair test" of an electric vehicle, typically an urban car, to travel the 484-mile journey.Using only public charging points along the east coast of the country, the final charging point had been scheduled to take place at Wark, with a long distance to travel to the finishing line. However, with luck, a charging post had been installed at a garden centre in Berwick on Tweed the week before, providing some valuable electricity for the car.Reflecting on the challenge, Mr Milligan wrote on the BBC website: "We are in a golden age, where manufacturers are pouring millions of pounds into research, while governments across the world are prepared to subsidise both the cars and the charging posts. That is a sweet combination."He noted that by the end of 2011 there will be 4,000 charging points across the country, which could encourage more people to take up the technology.Posted by Emily Thomas Find out more about alternative fuels
