Consumers urged to make insulation their 2011 resolution

Consumers have been urged to make insulation their New Year's resolution for 2011.Writing for the Telegraph, Sarah Lonsdale explained how she has reduced her household's fuel bills by more than £500 a year.She has installed cavity wall insulation in her 1920s property, as well as loft insulation and glazing.The writer has replaced her fridge with an AA-rated energy efficient home appliance, put up thermal lined curtains and even insulated the letterbox.Recent figures from the Department for Energy and Climate Change have estimated that of the 23.2 million homes in the UK that have lofts, just 12.3 million have loft insulation of at least 125mm.Meanwhile, of the 18.6 million homes with cavity walls, 10.3 million have cavity wall insulation.Neil Marshall, chief executive of the National Insulation Association, told the news provider: " Insulation costs are so low, the payback is so quick and the grants that are available make it a no brainer."Posted by Emily Thomas Sign up for regular email updates to help you save money and energy
